We drove through stormy weather and a sky of two halves – bright blue and clearing to the south, black in front of us. Autumn colours deepening on our route north: the purples of heather, the cut-corn fields of reddening gold. On arrival in Beadnell the rain had cleared for our first sunset at the estuary. The photograph – not sunrise – shows the evening sky colouring the water at Long Nanny.
